Applicants Eligibility Requirements

The following are the eligibility requirements for those interested in applying to the DoD NDSEG Fellowship Program:

  • The NDSEG Fellowship Program is open only to U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals. Dual citizens may apply.
    • The term “U.S. national” designates a citizen of the United States or a native of a possession of the United States such as American Samoa. It does not refer to a citizen of another country who has applied for U.S. citizenship
    • Persons who hold permanent resident status are ineligible to apply.
  • Eligible applicants are required to be enrolled in their final year of undergraduate studies through the second year of a traditional PhD program. See below for a breakout of eligibility criteria:
    • Undergraduate Students (degree must be received prior to the Fellowship Start date)
    • Recent Bachelor's Degree Recipients
    • Graduate Students (1st year, 2nd year)
    • Recent Master's Degree Recipients
    • Pre-Doctoral Students (1st year, 2nd year)
    • Dual MD-PHD Students
    • Dual PSYD-PHD Students

    Applicants who are pursuing a Medical Degree are not eligible for the NDSEG fellowship.

  • Applicants must plan to enroll in a full-time program at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education leading to graduate degrees in fields specified in the DoD services Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) research and development discipline

Applications are encouraged from women, persons with disabilities and minorities, including members of ethnic minority groups such as Native American, African American, Hispanic American, Native Alaskan (Eskimo and Aleut) or Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian).

DoD NDSEG Fellow Appointment Eligibility Requirements

DoD NDSEG Fellows must meet the following requirements as a condition of their appointment:

  • Enrolled in full-time programs leading to graduate degrees in fields specified in the DoD services Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) research and development discipline
  • Attending an accredited U.S. institution of higher education
  • Has made satisfactory academic progress toward an advanced degree in one of the science or engineering fields
  • Mandatory attendance to the DoD National NDSEG Fellows Conference within their award term

Fellow may not accept simultaneous remuneration from another fellowship; e.g., if an applicant is offered both an NSF and an NDSEG Fellowship, the applicant must choose between the two offers.
